Mersin Train Station
Mersin Station is the main train station of TCDD, located in the Akdeniz district of Mersin. It was put into service in 1886.
The station, which is under the responsibility of TCDD 6th Region, serves Mersin - Adana, Mersin - İskenderun and Mersin - İslahiye regional trains.
The station is approximately 500 m from Mersin Port and there are railway lines extending to the port docks. For this reason, it is mostly used by freight trains.
The station was built and put into service for the Mersin - Tarsus - Adana railway line by the Mersin - Tarsus - Adana Railway / Mersin - Tarsus - Adana Railway (MTA) Company, a French company, in 1886. In 1906, the train traffic at the station increased with the purchase of the MTA Company by the Chemins du Fer Impérial Ottomans de Bagdad / Ottoman Imperial Baghdad Railway (CIOB) Company.
MTA Company shared the same fate with CIOB Company on 1 January 1929 and was nationalized within the scope of the nationalization decision of the railways taken by the government. The railway line operated by the company was transferred to the General Directorate of State Railways, which would later be named TCDD.
In 1955, a new station building was built near the historical station building. The historical station building is only used as an office today.
