Behramkale
Behram or Behramkale is a village in Ayvacık district of Çanakkale province.
The village has had the same name since 1487. The ancient city of Assos, one of the most important port cities of the Archaic period, and the Temple of Athena, which is located at the highest point of the city and dates back to 525 BC, are within the borders of Behramkale today. Excavations were first carried out in the region in the 1800s, and excavations have been carried out continuously since 1981. The name Makhramion, or Makhram for short, given to Assos during the Byzantine period, is the origin of the word Behram today.
The single-domed Hüdavendigar Mosque, located north of the Temple of Athena, was built by Murat I in the 14th century. The stone Hüdavendigar Bridge, also built during the Ottoman period, built over the Tuzla Stream or Satnioeis, has survived to the present day and is open for use. The ancient harbor in the village is also still in use.[6]
