Birgi Village
Birgi was successively ruled by the Phrygians, Lydians, Achaemenid Empire, Kingdom of Pergamon, and Romans. In the 13th and 14th centuries, it served as the capital of the Aydınoğulları Principality. In 1426, it became part of the Ottoman Empire. Previously a village, Birgi gained neighborhood status as an administrative division with Law No. 6360, adopted in 2012 and effective on March 30, 2014. It is located 10 km from the district center. It is home to historical structures such as the Ulu Mosque and the Çakırağa Mansion. In 2012, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. In 2022, it was selected as one of the world's top 32 tourist villages by the World Tourism Organization.
