Caglayan, Fındıklı

Çağlayan is a village in Fındıklı district of Rize province, formerly known as Ab-ı Ulya. Ab-ı Ulya, a Laz village, means “upper stream.” The name of the village is mentioned as Âb-ı Ulya (آب علیا) in the Trabzon province salnamesi dated 1876 and the Ottoman village list dated 1928. In the lower part of the stream, which today bears the name of Çağlayan Creek, there was Ab-ı Süfla (آب سفلا), also a Laz village. The name of this village, which was also written as “Abusüfla” in later history, was changed to Aksu. Today, this settlement is a neighborhood of the town of Fındıklı.Çağlayan village is 66 km from the Rize provincial center and 6 km from the district center of Fındıklı.Ab-ı Ulya, in the Ottoman Turkish village list dated 1928, was connected to the Viçe nahiyesi of the Hopa district of the Rize province.1935 The village, which was recorded as “Abuülya” in the general census, was one of the villages of Viçe district of Hopa accident of Çoruh province and had a population of 668 people.Although Ab-ı Ulya was also recorded as “Abusüfla” in the 1940 general census, it was recorded as Çağlıyan (later Çağlayan) in the 1950 general census. It is understood that the name of the village was changed to Çağlıyan between these two dates. In 1940, the village was under the Vince sub-district of Hopa district of Çoruh province and in 1950 it was under the central sub-district of Fındıklı district of Çoruh province. Despite the name change, the old name of the village was used in official records for a while as “Çağlayan (Abuülya)” along with its new name.Caglayan Valley

Another one of the most important natural wonder spots in our region that we want you to see is Rize Fındıklı Çağlayan Valley, which carries the traces of a hidden paradise in the Eastern Black Sea with its unique naturalness and history.

The deep valley, whose old and local name is Abu Viçe, was named Çağlayan due to the raging stream flowing from the Kaçkar extension Marsis Mountain. Çağlayan Village hosts examples of mansions and Laz Houses with historical traces.

One of these examples is the Babalık Natural Life Mansion, which has the traces of 250 years of history with the dolmat stone mansion architecture unique to the Black Sea Architecture in our region.

Fındıklı Çağlayan Valley is a natural wonder waiting to be discovered for authentic travel enthusiasts with its historical texture, where endless green meets blue, time freezes, plateaus, streams, waterfalls, vegetation and animal diversity.
